初めて見たのはエレファントマンだった。小学生の時だ。当時授業で見た人は少なくないと思う。エレファントマンの話は国語の副読本や英語の授業などで取り上げられることも多く、テレビでも定期的に流れていた記憶がある。とても感動的な話だと感じていた。監督が誰かなんてことを考える年齢ではなかったがオープニング象が迫ってくるシーンは夢に見るくらい恐ろしかった。
数年後、ツインピークスの大ブームがやってくる。犯人探しに夢中になったが、パイロット版、最終話などだけ異様な緊張感があることに子供ながら気がつく。劇場版ツインピークスを見てみるとキャストの髪型も違うし場所も違って見える（画角が違う）し、何が何やらわからないが画面が美しすぎてレーザーディスクを購入し繰り返し何十回も見て「これ監督がすごいんだ！！」ということに気がつく。
デヴィッド・リンチが監督したエピソードはとにかく生理的に心地が良くて何度見ても飽きなかった。それまではストーリーでしか映画を判断できなかった子供に作家性、演出の素晴らしさなど映画芸術の素晴らしさを教えてくれた。
2018年。ツインピークスのシーズン3はとにかく贅沢な作品だった。濃密なデヴィッド・リンチ節がひたすら続くのだ。最後にツインピークスを残してくれたことが本当に嬉しかった。
語りたいことは無数にあって書ききれない。今はひたすら寂しくはあるがこれからも何度もリンチの作品を見返していきたいと思う。ありがとう。
The first time I saw the Elephant Man.I was in elementary school.I don’t think many people saw it in class at the time.I remember that the story of the Elephant Man was often covered in supplementary reading books for Japanese and English classes, and was also shown regularly on TV.I found it to be a very moving story.I wasn’t old enough to think about who the director was, but the opening scene with the elephant coming at me was terrifying enough to dream about.
A few years later comes the big boom of Twin Peaks.I became obsessed with finding the culprit, but even as a child I noticed that only the pilot, final episode, etc. had an odd sense of tension.When I saw the movie version of Twin Peaks, I noticed that the cast had different hairstyles, the locations looked different (different angle of view), and the screen was so beautiful that I bought the laser disc and watched it dozens of times over and over, and then I realized, “This is a great director!I’m not sure what’s going on, but the screen is so beautiful that I bought the laserdisc and watched it dozens of times over and over again and realized that the director is amazing!
The episode directed by David Lynch was just so physiologically pleasant that I never got tired of watching it again and again.It taught my child, who until then had only been able to judge movies by their stories, the beauty of auteurism, direction, and other aspects of the art of cinema.
2018.Season 3 of Twin Peaks was just extravagant.The dense David Lynch verse just keeps on going.I was so glad they left Twin Peaks at the end.
There are so many things I want to say that I can’t write them down.I will miss him, but I will look back at Lynch’s works many times in the future.Thank you.
